Charcoal has been used for centuries, the Egyptians used charcoal in many ways. The most popular ones were to preserve the bodies of the dead and blend for alluring eye makeup like Cleopatra. Activated charcoal was developed sometime between 1870 and 1920, it was widely used in hospitals and clinics for its ability to absorb impurities, infections, and toxins from the body. Used in many ways as a topical in salves, face masks, detox baths, deodorants, soaps, shampoos, eye makeup, and even mixed with water into a paste to be applied on the skin. Chances are you have used a charcoal product, noticeable by the deep rich color of this one ingredient. It is easily identified in items because of its ability to darken anything it is added to. Charcoal has become a star ingredient in popular natural health care in the last few years, and many brands now have a charcoal option available for their most popular products.

Adding charcoal to the soap batter is one of my favorite things to add in natural colorants. How can you not fall in love with this natural, unique and creamy bar? These soaps are harder and last longer than some bars due to the charcoal's ability to pull in oils and draw toxins out. Using this ingredient in my Magic Moon Water soaps, and adding definition to bars with dusting bits of cubed soaps, swirling in for dramatic motion, or adding just a touch to another color to darken it and bring on warmer deeper tones. Charcoal brings so much richness to a bar of soap and is always a favorite of customers of mine, both new and repeat. If you are looking to give your soaps some drama or flare this is a must-have ingredient that customers along with us soap crafters are sure to love equally. Adding this one ingredient to come up with ornate patterns and blending in the most beautiful dark shadows and gently darkening colors with just a touch of charcoal. Be bold and give charcoal a go in your soaps or beauty products! Branch out into something magical! You just may fall head over heels with the color contrast that charcoal can provide to daily life and self-care routine.

Making soaps with all-natural ingredients does not have to be boring or challenging, with items nature provides, we can achieve almost any color imaginable. If you are a quality over quantity person, then charcoal products may just be your new go-to item. On average one gram of charcoal is approximately 1000 square meters of surface area. This provides a gigantic amount of surface area to get down and do the dirty work better and with less effort than many other detoxifying agents available on the market today. Making this a perfect item for those with sensitive skin or jobs where they are regularly exposed to icky conditions. Gentle yet effective, suitable for your daily skincare routine. Charcoal bars can be used on specific areas that just need a little extra love, or just when you feel like you may need a little extra attention to your skin on a particular day. Most products in the bathroom have bold and complicated fragrances, leaving you covered in different blends of smells from your shampoo, body wash, lotions, and then topping it all off with the fragrance of laundry detergents and dryer sheets to the mix. It is nice to not be covered in a cacophony of fragrances that do not mix well together. Using fragrance-free soaps is always nice because when you are done washing, you are not covered in any fragrance other than a clean human. This helps your desired cologne or perfume last longer and stand out better if you choose to apply any.
