Nighttime self-care routines are a great practice to get into at any age. It is time to be kind to ourselves and show appreciation to our bodies and what it does for us, spend time with loved ones and do what brings us joy. Life goes by faster and faster each year it feels like, there are only 24 hours in each day, yet they fly by often without noticing. Each night we have a chance to prepare for the next day and wash away the day's grime, and bar soap is a perfect way to do just that. Fancy night creams and serums that cost an arm and a leg are not a part of everyone's lifestyle, not everyone has the income to purchase miracle creams advertised all over social media, sometimes less is more.
Trying our new items and raw ingredients are ways to learn intimately about each item in my products. Spending the time to work new items into my hair and skin routine is exciting, learning what works well together. Sometimes experimenting with things do not work out as planned, and other times I find something I adore. Recently I tried my Whidbey Island Soap as a shampoo bar and have not used anything else since! This process helps keep me interested in my business and encourages me to keep going and learning.
(Jojoba oil as an oil cleanser.)
Oil cleansing to take off makeup and debris that have accumulated on the skin throughout the day is my favorite way to get stuff off without chemical-filled cleansers. Coconut oil is a wonderful cleanser and is a healthy alternative to store-bought items. Adding a few drops of liquid oil to the palms of my hands and working it onto my skin, including my eye area, and rinsing off with a clean microfiber washcloth and warm water to remove the residue left behind. No need for an extra moisturizer after, for the residual oil remaining on my face is helpful and most of the time absorbed by the time I head to bed.
*Pro-Tip
Jojoba oil is the closest oil to what our skin produces and is technically not an oil but a liquid wax. If you have oily skin, this may be a new favorite item. I love to use it in the morning after showering when my skin is still wet, adding a few drops to my face and neck before drying off.
(Nothing better than family cuddle time!)
Unwinding with my husband and dog at the end of the day on the couch is probably my favorite time of the whole day. Turning on a show, and huddling together under blankets makes my heart happy. These are some of my most cherished moments with my family. Often I do not even make it through what we are watching without falling asleep on the couch before heading to bed. Life is often about the little things, making time to do what brings us joy and happiness helps make our lives more full. Making time to make these memories is important to me, and hope to have a life filled with them, for you can never get any more time with loved ones once they are gone and tomorrow is never a given for any of us.
(Lemons have always been a favorite of mine.)
Drinking tea, lemon or ginger water, taking vitamins, probiotics, and melatonin are priorities as I have aged. This time to prepare hot water in my kettle and choose my tea as my final drink for the day is a special time for me. It reminds me to slow down, reflect on the day, and plan for my morning. Sometimes I brew an extra-large glass just to have some cold tea or flavored water in the morning, as the flavor gets stronger with the length of items in the water. Roasted dandelion root tea is one of my favorite teas to brew and drink in the morning, it gets thick and rich like coffee and is delicious as a coffee substitute!
(Self-care is the best care!)
Nightly routines do not have to be fancy and full of expensive items and night treatments. Taking some ME time for the day should be important for us all. It can be easy to get caught up in the day and lose track of time while being overwhelmed, exhausted, and stressed. Chores will always be there to do, we can not turn back the clock, I encourage you to spend even a few moments doing something you love with those you love every day. Hope you all enjoy your nights as much as you do your mornings. Blessed be.
